History

Jordie and Joyce purchased the 13 acre land in 1991, with the dream of raising their kids on a hobby farm. Each weekend would be spent at the auction, purchasing animals from chickens, ducks, and turkeys to cows, pigs, sheep and goats. But, the best purchase by far was the little pony which I proudly named Dutchess (inspired by my book Black Beauty).

My pony Dutchess

By 1993, the vision for the farm changed to a ranch. Suddenly Jordie, the dreamer and builder in the family, began putting up building after building. It started with a boarding stable, outdoor riding arena, lean-twos, hitching posts, and tack rooms then moved to eating areas, chuck wagon shaped bunk houses, concession stand, games rooms and outdoor sports areas.

Barn-raising

In 2000 life took a sudden turn.  Jordie had opportunities in the booming world of construction, and rather than barns he began building houses, and Joyce started to persue her love for helping the "at risk" youth in the community.

That's where I really come in.  I'm Denise, the oldest daughter. I had just graduated when the family business closed down, so I started teaching riding lessons. I figured if we still had great horses, tack and facilities, I may as well make use of it. Besides, I wasn't done in the world of horses. I had all this knowledge from being raised in the industry, and I figured it would be a waste to throw it away.

Giddy-Up!

SO, I slowly began to re-build the business, one client at a time. By 2002 I got back into summer day camps. June 2003 I married the love of my life who became not only my husband but also my business partner. Paul and I immediately knew that one day we wanted to take the plunge and buy the ranch.

Finally in Spring 2007 we wrote up a purchase agreement for the ranch!!! We have MANY dreams and vision for Matsqui Stables....it's just a matter of time before they are revealed!
