Denise Ratnam

Owner of Matsqui Stables

Primary Riding Coach

I got my first pony Dutchess when I was 9, became a wrangler at 12, and a guide at 15. Helping my parents run a ranch was a lot of work, but looking back I realize how invaluable it was. Not only did it keep me out of trouble, but built my confidence as a person, gave me an interesting skill set, and taught me responsibility and good work ethic! Now I am a CHA Certified instructor who is passionate about teaching people how to ride and develop their horsemanship skills. I am committed to customizing my coaching to accommodate for all communication styles, levels of learning and riding abilities. Teaching is my passion and I am excited to dedicate my life to it!

Danielle

Horse Trainer

My introduction to horses came early in life. At the age of 5, I convinced my dad to enroll me in riding lessons. Since then I have been hooked on horses. I have had the opportunity to be mentored by some truly talented horsemen and horsewomen. I have tried dressage, jumping and most recently cattle penning. My favorite activity to do with horses is trail riding. In my teens I was introduced to natural horsemanship, and I am now dedicated to becoming a better partner for the horses in my life! My biggest teacher has been my 4 year old Quarter Horse, Ace, who I have had the opportunity to build a relationship with since he was a year old. After high school, I went to Simon Fraser University and I graduated with a Bachelors degree with a minor in Education. Now I am able to combine my understanding of how people learn with my passion for horses. That is why I am here at Matsqui Stables!

Tammy

Barn Staff

In the Spring of ‘09, my love for horses galloped back into my heart. After many years away from anything equine, I jumped right in. Volunteering at a horse rescue, a therapeutic riding center and Matsqui Trail Stables.

My childhood memories of riding soon trotted back too. So, I started taking lessons with Denise, here at MTS! (by the way, she is a great teacher, and no, she didn‘t pay me to say that, LOL)

After spending time around the stables, I thought this would be a nice place to work. The rest, as they say, is history! I am now part of the team. I help manage the barns, assist with lessons and camps, and sometimes I‘m even a trail guide.
